4 Ways To Repair Sun And Saltwater Damaged Hair
Don't let the beach get the better of your hair

If you aren't spending your summer at beach, what are you doing, really? A beach getaway is an annual ritual for many of us which makes us look forward to the scorching months. And sometimes, in the excitement of soaking in the sea and taking long walks on the beach, we forget to take the right precautions. We won't lie, the results can be troubling. Saltwater, humid breeze and sun exposure can leave hair brittle, dry and broken. If your beach trip has left your locks looking tragic, give these 4 hair care tips a try.

1. Cleanse Quick

If you find your hair dry and dehydrated as the result of a salty swim, make a beeline for the bathroom. Sand and salt have possibly settled into your lengths and scalp so it's important to get it all out and quick. Cleanse your hair with a clarifying shampoo, twice if necessary and make sure to be thorough on your scalp as well.

2. Oil It

Heat a few tablespoons of coconut, almond or argan oil and with your fingertips, massage it into your scalp, lengths and ends. Tie the hair tightly and wrap it with a hot damp towel for 30 minutes. Then wash off the oil with shampoo and warm water. Thick oils like these are high in nutrients which help smoothen and repair the hair.

3. No Tools

Once the damage has already been done, the best you can do is keep away from all kinds of hair tools, especially heated ones. It's likely that the sun has zapped the moisture straight out of the cuticle so styling tools like flat irons and blow dryers will only further damage it. Go easy on brushing and combing too as that can stretch and break the strand.

4. Mask Up

There's nothing like a nourishing natural hair mask to help your tresses recover from the damaging effects of saltwater and sunrays. Whip one up by blending two tablespoons of honey with half an avocado and one tablespoon of olive oil. Apply over your lengths and ends, leave it for an hour and wash off well.

PS: the next time you head to the beach, a layer of leave-in conditioner can save you so much trouble. Here's to healthy, repaired hair soon.
