AMRI hospital fire: Two top Kolkata doctors arrested
Kolkata: Two top Kolkata doctors have been arrested in connection with the fire tragedy at the AMRI hospital in the city. A pre-dawn blaze at the hospital on December 9 last year had left over 90 people dead. Most of them were patients who choked to death due to toxic smoke.

The doctors who have been arrested today - Dr Mani Chettri and Dr Pranab Dasgupta - were AMRI board members. They have been remanded to the police custody till February 2. The doctors were arrested after questioning at police headquarters.

Thirteen people have so far so far been arrested in the case. Those arrested include four staff members and nine board members.

Earlier this month, industry lobby FICCI had urged the West Bengal government to release the arrested AMRI Hospital directors. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, rejected their request and said the law would take its own course in the case.

"A business house had requested me not to take any action against them (AMRI directors). But it is not correct. We want industry. But we don't want industry which kills people," Banerjee had said at a press conference.
