Show Me Probe Report: Oommen Chandy On Fresh Investigation In Kerala Solar Scam

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the judicial commission report offers enough evidence of corruption by the former chief minister. Oommen Chandy has demanded a copy of the report.

Oommen Chandy told NDTV he's not worried and is confident of proving his innocence.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Days after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan ordered an investigation against his predecessor Oommen Chandy in the solar scam, the latter has called it a 'political gimmick'.

Speaking to NDTV, Mr Chandy said, "We are not worried about anything. We are very confident of proving our innocence."

While ordering the probe, Mr Vijayan said that the judicial commission report on the scam offers enough evidence of corruption by the former chief minister and his personal staff.

Mr Chandy has demanded a copy of the report.

"As a citizen, it is my right to see the report. The Chief Minister has spoken to the press about the action he is taking based on the report, without even giving out the terms of reference. He has selectively chosen points and acted on them. I have filed an RTI application and will now write to Pinarayi Vijayan demanding a copy of the report," Mr Chandy added.

In 2013, Saritha Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan had allegedly duped several businessmen of crores of rupees by promising solar panels at cheap rates. They had got the contracts by claiming proximity to Mr Chandy. Amid protests by the opposition, the former chief minister had then directed a judicial commission to look into the allegations.

Even as Mr Chandy was acquitted in the solar scam earlier this month due to lack of evidence, Mr Vijayan on Wednesday ordered a Vigilance case against him asserting that the probe report found he allegedly helped the con couple.

Criminal cases have also been ordered against former Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and former United Democratic Front (UDF) lawmakers for allegedly influencing the police probe and shielding Mr Chandy.

Cases have been ordered against other UDF leaders accused by Saritha Nair of allegedly 'sexually exploiting' her in a letter which also names Oommen Chandy.

Mr Chandy has denied all allegations made by the woman who he said has already told the press that "she had nothing against me".
