Venkaiah Naidu apologises after woman MP breaks down over his comment

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu had to apologise in Parliament today after a woman MP from the Congress broke down when he snapped at her for interjecting during his speech in Rajya Sabha on Foreign Direct Investment or FDI in multi-brand retail.

While Mr Naidu was speaking, the Congress MP interjected. Mr Naidu called her bewakoof (stupid) for disrupting his speech.

Ms Thakur, upset over the comments, broke down in tears, and was seen outside Parliament being comforted by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhary.

Her party, the Congress lodged a protest wanting an apology from Mr Naidu. Lalu Prasad also joined that demand.

"I went to the lobby and saw our Congress colleague Madam Prabha Thakur was feeling bad I met her personally I understood her feelings I have no disrespect to anybody, If she's hurt by my this thing I express regret, I always hold everybody in high esteem," Mr Naidu apologised in the House.

Ms Thakur currently represents Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha. She is also the president of the All India Mahila Congress. She is a renowned Hindi poetess and social worker too.
