Spellbound by Barack Obama's speech in the Parliament, a Congress MP from Andhra Pradesh today gifted a golden chain with south sea pearls which he was wearing to the US President who immediately accepted it.
Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, the MP from Guntur, went to Obama after he concluded his 35-minutes-long speech to the members of both the Houses and gifted the chain to him.
"After hearing the mesmerising speech in which he kept on praising India and its culture, I felt that I should gift him something," he told reporters here.
"I did not have anything that time to gift to the US President except this thing," the MP said.
He said Obama graciously accepted his gift though he had been using the chain.
"I asked him whether he has problem in accepting the gift. The US president replied no. I was overwhelmed by his graciousness," he said.
The chain with south sea pearls is estimated to be worth Rs four lakh.
