Rs 10 lakh relief for Sep 7 blast victims: Court
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the central and Delhi governments to pay compensation of Rs.10 lakh each to the families of those killed and those permanently incapacitated in the Sep 7 blast at the Delhi High Court here.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said the compensation amount "should be equally shared by the (two) governments".

The bench also said that those who suffered grievous injuries should be given Rs.3 lakh each. It also announced compensation of Rs.20,000 for minor injuries.

The bench had on Sep 14 issued notice and sought the responses of the two governments by Sep 21 while hearing a plea for giving appropriate compensation.

Delhi government's standing counsel Najmi Waziri had said before the bench on Sep 14 that compensation of Rs.4 lakh was announced for the next of the kin of those killed in the blast and Rs.2 lakh for those permanently incapacitated.

The counsel had mentioned that those seriously injured in the blast would to get Rs.1 lakh while in case of a death of a minor, the family would get Rs.1.5 lakh. "People who received minor injuries in the blast will be given Rs.10,000," the counsel had said.

Fifteen people were killed and several were disabled in the blast outside the Delhi High Court on Sep 7.
