Protest in Jammu over Vienna clash

Jammu: Around 300 people demonstrated on the streets on Monday against the attack on the head of Dera sect at a gurdwara in Vienna on Sunday, police said on Monday.

The demonstrators took out a procession in jewel chowk amid tight police security to prevent any untoward incident, officials said.

The demonstrators voiced their protest over the incident and called for peace.

In Vienna about 30 people were injured, some of them seriously, when two groups of worshippers clashed with knives and other weapons on Sunday and also attacked religious leaders.

One Dera leader Sant Ramanand succumbed to injuries early on Monday, while the condition of another, Sant Niranjan Das was stable.

The fight between the supporters of the two Dera sects had erupted following a dispute over a sermon given by the visiting Indian priest at a gurdwara in Austrian capital.
