Noida:
An SUV with a blue beacon, belonging to a senior border police officer, was stolen in the early hours of Wednesday from Noida near Delhi. This evening Delhi Police tweeted an alert with information on the car and tagged NDTV and other media houses asking them to retweet it.
Weeks after the Pathankot terror attack, in which the stolen car of a police officer played a role, the police in Delhi and neighbouring states are trying to trace the car.
The brand new Tata Safari was stolen from the home of Anand Swarup, the Inspector General of the Indo Tibetan Border Police or ITBP.
The car had a Chandigarh registration number CH01GA2915, the police said in their alert.Police across India are on guard ahead of the Republic Day celebrations next week, which will feature French President Francois Hollande as Chief Guest. Intelligence and security agencies have reported a threat from the terror group ISIS.
Just before the terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base earlier this month, the official vehicle of a police officer was hijacked.
The blue beacon on the Mahindra XUV car of police officer Salwinder Singh helped the six terrorists get past several police check posts a day before the January 2 attack. The SUV was found abandoned a little over 500 metres from the base.
Salwinder Singh, who was a Superintendent of Police in Punjab's Gurdaspur, which borders Pakistan, has claimed that he was travelling with his jeweler friend and cook when they were waylaid, abducted and later released by the terrorists dressed in army fatigues on the night of December 31.
The terrorists used his car to enter Pathankot, where they attacked the air force base, one of the largest and more sensitive military installations in the western sector close to the border.
Seven security personnel were martyred and 20 were injured in the attack.
