PM's working group proposes autonomy for J&K

Jammu: Prime Minister's working group on Centre-State relations has presented its report to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday.

The working group recommends that the abrogation or continuance of Article 370 be left to the people of the State.

On the demand for autonomy, the group said that it could be examined in the light of the Kashmir Accord or on the basis of some formula the Prime Minister may think appropriate.

The working group skirts the issue of self rule saying no specific proposal of 'Self Rule' was provided to working group when it met.

The working group, constituted by Dr. Singh on May 25, 2006, at the end of the Round Table Conference in Srinagar, was headed by Justice Saghir Ahmad. The group has not met since 2007. The left and the BJP are upset with the submission of this report as it was not circulated among the members before.
