Phones are Being Tapped, Alleges Haryana Opposition Leader Abhay Chautala

INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala

Chandigarh: A day after Haryana Health Minister caught a 'CID officer' allegedly "spying" on him, Leader of Opposition in state Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala today claimed that his phones were being tapped and he was being spied on.

Charging the Manohar Lal Khattar government with carrying out the surveillance on him, Mr Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) said, "My phones are being tapped and I am being spied on."

Reacting to Health minister Vij's claim that he was being "spied on", Mr Chautala said it was bad that the chief minister did not have faith in his own colleague.

He said that the present BJP government in the state is following the footsteps of previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda government to keep a tab on opposition leaders by "misusing" the CID department which directly reports to the chief minister.

"Today in Haryana there is no single leader in opposition on whom spying is not being done," he said.

Describing Mr Vij as the "most honest" minister, the opposition leader said if Mr Khattar had no faith on a person like Mr Vij he should remove him.

"It (spying on a cabinet rank minister) is a serious issue," he said adding that there had been continuous difference of opinion between Mr Khattar and some of his ministers since the first BJP government assumed power in Haryana.

Yesterday, Mr Vij had caught a 'CID officer' allegedly "spying" outside his office, although the state DGP clarified that such personnel are deployed as per standard procedure to keep an eye on people visiting Ministers.

Mr Vij had taken a strong note of the incident and raked up the issue claiming if CID personnel had been spying.

With the Minister not relenting, a probe was ordered into the matter by the IGP (security), who has sought submission of the report by Monday.
