Pakistani band Jal's Mumbai concert cancelled

Pakistani band Jal's Mumbai concert cancelled
New Delhi: Fans of Pakistani band Jal were left disappointed after the concert in Mumbai, scheduled for today, was cancelled. Jal's vocalist and lead guitarist Goher Mumtaz told NDTV that the concert, which was to be held at the Hard Rock Cafe, had to be cancelled because of "permission issues." He also said, "I don't what exactly was the reason. Probably that we were Pakistani artistes."

The band is scheduled to play at the Hard Rock Cafe in New Delhi on April 5.

Hard Rock Cafe released a statement this evening that said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Jal performance at Hard Rock Cafe Mumbai has been cancelled. We understand that it was an eagerly awaited performance and we deeply regret the inconvenience caused. Our patrons who purchased online tickets in advance can avail it as per the refund policy. Have faith, keep rocking and thank you for your support and understanding."

Describing the cancellation as "very sad," Mr Goher said the band were disappointed, especially since they do not often come to India.

"When we see all the love from India and Indian fans, we get excited about performing in India," said Mr Goher, adding that despite not being able to perform in Mumbai, the band would continue to interact with fans.

This is not the first time that a Jal concert has been cancelled in India. In February 2012, a concert at a college fest in Pune was called off after activists from Bhartiya Vidyarthi Sena protested.

Jal, which also includes vocalist Farhan Saeed and bass guitarist Aamir Sheraz, have just released their third album Pyaas. Singer Atif Aslam, famous for Bollywood hits such as Who Lamhe, is an alumnus of the band.
