Lucknow:
BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will launch his party's Lok Sabha poll campaign in Uttar Pradesh from a rally at Kanpur on October 19.
"The event was earlier scheduled for October 15, but as it clashed with two important festivals, the rally was postponed to October 19," BJP's chief spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak told PTI.
The decision to reschedule the rally was taken on the request of party workers as it clashed with Dussehra and Eid-ul-Zuha, he said.
The rally would be Mr Modi's maiden visit to the state after his elevation as chairman of BJP's central election campaign committee and anointment as the party's Prime Ministerial candidate.
Mr Modi will start BJP's general election campaign in UP next month from the Congress bastions of Kanpur, Jhansi and Bahraich.
Mr Modi and party president Rajnath Singh are scheduled to address a rally in Kanpur on October 19 followed by another one at Jhansi on October 25 and in Bahraich on November 8, Pathak said.
All the three areas are considered to be Congress bastions, with two having representation in the UPA government.
While Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal is MP from Kanpur, Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain 'Aditya' is MP from Jhansi.
Bahraich parliamentary constituency is represented by Congress MP Commando Kamal Kishore.
