Mumbai's battle of the biggies

Mumbai's battle of the biggies
Mumbai:

The country's financial capital is set to vote in two days. An election against the backdrop of the terror strike. And candidates are on their final frenzied rounds of campaigning.

All eyes will be on its most high profile seats - Mumbai South and North Central.

The country's richest constituency, Mumbai South faces a tough electoral battle. First time MP Milind Deora takes on the Shiv Sena's Mohan Rawle who won five terms from the adjoining seat.

While the BSP and Samajwadi party candidates could cut Deora's vote, Rawle faces a challenger from Raj Thackeray's party.

The seat also has a host of Independents including ABN Amro's Meera Sanyal.

Another high profile battle is at Mumbai North Central, where first time MP from the Congress Priya Dutt takes on top criminal lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani contesting from the BJP.

Priya Dutt may have more experience than Jethmalani but faces resistance from Congressmen in her constituency, which may work to his advantage.

But whichever seat they represent, what matters to Mumbai's citizens is their candidates' stand on post 26/11 security.

"The Congress party does not trade with terrorists," said Priya Dutt, Congress Candidate.

However, BJP candidate Mahesh Jethmalani was quick to put forth an opposed view, saying, "The ruling alliance has lost the battle against terrorism."
