Monsoon in Delhi by first week of July

New Delhi: Monsoon may have missed its date with Delhi on Tuesday, but the Metrological Department chief has told NDTV that it will hit the Capital in the first week of July.

"What we are expecting now is that in the next two-three days no such phenomena is developing which can bring monsoon to the new areas or to northwest India, but then at the beginning of July there are indications of change in the wind pattern. There are indications in the strengthening of the winds and probably by first week of July, monsoon will advance into more areas of central India and some areas of northwest India," he said.

The advance of the monsoon towards the central and northern parts of the country is behind schedule by nearly two weeks. The monsoon has reached central India that is Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Indore, Pendra, Ambikapur, Daltonganj, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Raxaul.

Meanwhile, heat wave conditions continue in parts of Rajasthan and over isolated pockets of Haryana.

The western disturbance over north Pakistan and neighbourhood persists. Low and medium clouds are seen over northwest and central India.

Metrological department has forecasted isolated rain and thunderstorms over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh Delhi, Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh.

There is a possibility of fall in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C over plains of northwest India during next 48 hours.
