BSP chief Mayawati issues statement on Muzaffarnagar violence
Lucknow:
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati speaks on the Muzaffarnagar violence. Here are the highlights:
Communal clashes have created greater problems for the people of UP.
Law and order has deteriorated in UP from the time Samajwadi Party came in to power.
Samajwadi Party government responsible for increase in crime against women and the communal situation.
Uttar Pradesh government took action in Muzaffarnagar only after the situation spiralled out of control.
Recent incidents have proven that there is a constitutional crisis in the state.
We demand the SP government be dismissed by the Governor and President's rule be imposed.
I had met the Governor two months ago and requested him to recommend that the SP government be dismissed. But unfortunately, he kept quiet in this regard.
It seems he became active in this matter now when the Union Home Ministry demanded a report.
Don't agree to SP when they say the BJP is responsible for this. They should have controlled the situation and not let it get to this state.
I think the BJP and the SP are hand-in-gloves. Both the parties want to create communal tensions in the run up to the polls.
I want to tell the people of Uttar Pradesh that they should see through the conspiracy hatched by the BJP and SP.
In Uttar Pradesh there is 'jungle-raj'.
We don't need to agitate. The SP government has failed terribly in maintaining law and order in the state. Protesting is not going to achieve anything. I have written to the Governor. He has to take action.
