Madhani embarrassment to CPM

Thiruvananthapuram: Ministers of the Kerala cabinet shared stage with controversial Abdul Nasser Madhani days before the Lok Sabha polls in April this year. The unlikely CPM- Peoples Democratic Party alliance not only led to the loss of three seats in the Malabar region of Kerala but has brought major embarrassment to the CPM now.

The chief of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) - Madhani's wife Sufiya is accused of being the mastermind of the Kalamasery bus burning case in 2005.

"Yes it seems now that Sufiya indeed is involved in the bus burning case and she is now chargesheeted. We are looking into it and LDF government is discussing the alliance," said Pinarayi Vijayan, CPM Secretary.

According to sources in the special investigation team, Sufiya Madhani's plan to burn down a bus owned by the Tamil Nadu government, was her way of replying for the alleged ill-treatment to her husband Madhani in a Coimbatore jail then. Sufiya has apparently made phone calls to suspected Lashkar operative Nazeer, accused in the Bangalore blast case.

After a long stint in jail, Madhani had hoped that his new avatar as chief of PDP, an ally of the ruling party CPM would bring him the image of being the so-called saviour of the minority community. After the investigations in the last three days, it seems that his dark past, would not give space for a political future just yet.

Sufiya's petition for anticipatory bail will be heard on the of December 17 in the Kerala High court.
