Jamia Nagar votes for development

Jamia Nagar votes for development
New Delhi:

In Jamia Nagar, the electorate voted for development as the much-discussed Batla House encounter in the area turned into a "non issue" in Thursday's Lok Sabha polling.

The voters also choose parties over candidates in the polling marked by high security with Delhi police personnel, including staffers from its crime branch special squad, manning the booths.

The residents, most of whom were women, came out to vote and complained of "no development" in their locality. The area before delimitation was with the south Delhi constituency.

"The main issue here is that of development. Parties have not been able to provide us basic amenities. But then also we have to chose from them only... We vote for parties and not for candidates," said Anis Jung, a resident in Batla House.

On the development part, the residents blamed their former MP V K Malhotra for not providing basic amenities in the area. "The BJP MP, Malhotra, did nothing to provide us basic facilities like roads, electricity and clean water. Even we have enough lands but construction is not allowed here," said Altaf Alam, a resident of the area.

However, getting "due" justice, proper development and no more "dirty" politics are some of the expectations that the residents of the area have from their next representative.
