Passenger Trains Online Bookings From Today: 5 Things You Need To Know

"Only asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to travel," the Indian Railways has said.

New Delhi: Nearly 1.5 lakh tickets were booked within two hours of opening the bookings for the 100 pairs of passenger trains that the railways will operationalise on June 1, the Indian Railways said. The new set of special Indian Railways trains -- which will include popular trains like Durontos, Sampark Krantis, Jan Shatabdis and Poorva Express. -- will operate from June 1. This is the second slew of special passenger services that marked the Railways graded restoration of its trains which were suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

  1. "Within 2 hrs of opening, 1,49,025 tickets booked for first set of 73 special passenger trains to be operationalised from June 1," said a railway spokesperson. The IRCTC ticket booking for these special trains can only be done online on the IRCTC website (irctc.co.in) or the IRCTC mobile app.

  2. The list of new IRCTC special trains includes Janshatabdi trains and Duronto trains with non-AC coaches as well. Even the general coaches shall also have reserved seats for sitting, meaning there will be no unreserved coach in these trains.

  3. Only asymptomatic passengers would be allowed to travel and those found symptomatic will get full refund, railways said.

  4. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said that bookings will resume at ticket counters of stations in next 2-3 days. "We are conducting studies, developing protocol to safety against the virus," he said. He also announced that more trains will be resumed in coming days.

  5. All quotas in the new trains have been restored and concessions will be given to only four categories of Divyangjan and 11 categories of patients. Passengers have also been asked to carry their own linen and only packed food items will be available in the panty cars on payment basis, the Railways said.
