Goa Lawmaker's Car Allegedly Runs Over Biker

Goa lawmaker Subhash Phal Desai's car allegedly ran over a biker

Panaji:

A biker died after Goa lawmaker Subhash Phal Desai's car allegedly ran over him today near Panaji. Mr Desai was present in the car at the time, but a driver was at the wheels.

The accident took place around 7 am when the minister was on way to the airport. Sunil Rathod, 28, died on the spot.

Another person, who riding pillion, got injured in the accident and has been admitted in the Goa Medical College and Hospital, where his condition is said to be critical, they said.

The minister called the incident unfortunate, claiming his driver had tried his best to avoid the collision.

"I had a flight to Kerala and I was going towards the airport, when a motorcycle came in between and my driver swerved to the left," Mr Desai was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.  "Even in that circumstance he came under my car."

He said he would do "everything possible to help the family".

Mr Rathod's family admitted to receiving help from the minister.

"We want to take my brother's body to the village for the last rites and the minister is going to help us in that," said Mr Rathod's brother, Govind.

His brother, Govind said, was the eldest in the family.

A case of accidental death has been registered.
