Delhi-Bound Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express Derails In Assam

Guwahati: Delhi-bound Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express derailed in Assam today between Mahur and Phiding station in Lumding-Silchar hill section disrupting rail service in the area, Northeast Frontier Railway release said.

The Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express (train no. 15601) comprising 21 coaches had left Silchar at 6.30 pm yesterday for New Delhi when one pair of wheels of its luggage-cum-parcel van derailed at a place about 83 km from Lumding at round 1.50 am. All passengers on board are safe, the release said.

Railways officials immediately started restoration work at the site and the train was taken back to New Haflong station where the passengers were provided drinking water, tea and snacks.

Inclement weather condition in the area has been disrupting road communication to Barak Valley. The rail service in the Lumding-Silchar hill section was restored yesterday and was again disrupted for the second time, the release added.
