Navjot Singh Taken To Hospital 19 km From BMW Crash Spot. Son Has A Question

The son of a senior official of the Finance Ministry, who died after a BMW car hit his motorcycle in Delhi on Sunday, has raised questions over why his father was taken to a hospital about 19 kilometres away from the accident site.

Navjot Singh, the Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, was returning home with his wife on his bike from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when BMW car hit his motorcycle on Ring Road near Delhi Cantt metro station. The two were then taken by the accused to a private hospital in GTB Nagar.

While the 52-year-old died, his wife, Sandeep Kaur, sustained serious injuries and is currently in hospital.

Speaking to NDTV, their son, Navnoor Singh, said his father might have survived had he been taken to a nearby hospital.

"Time is critical," he said, alleging that his father was taken to a hospital about 19 kilometres away from the accident site. 

"Maybe he would have survived if he had been taken to a nearby hospital," Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh's mother has suffered severe injuries, including one on the head, even though she was wearing a helmet, the son said. She is currently being treated at a private hospital in Dwarka, Venkateshwar Hospital.

Recalling the incident, Mr Singh said, "A family friend called to inform me that my parents had met with an accident. I thought it must be a minor accident as my father is a careful driver. I was not very worried. But when we went to the hospital, it didn't make sense to me why my parents were admitted to a hospital in GTB Nagar when the accident happened near Dhaula Kuan."

According to the cab driver, Gulfam, who drove the victims to the hospital, it took half an hour to reach the hospital and everything was already prepared.

"There were theree people in my Eco car, including a woman, who asked me to drive to Azadpur. The woman called the hospital and asked to prepare the bed and everything else required for immediate treatment." 

The son claims that the woman driving the BMW brought his parents to the hospital and also suffered injuries, but the hospital refused to share any information about her.

"I kept asking the hospital staff about who brought my parents here, and from nurses to doctors, everyone said they are here, sitting outside. But I didn't find anyone. Later, I learnt that the patient on a hospital bed next to my dad was also involved in the accident," Mr Singh said.

The woman driving the car has been identified as Gaganpreet. Her husband, Parikshit, was in the passenger seat. The two are said to be in the business of making Horse leather Saddles, seats, covers, and belts.

"Around five hours later, I saw a doctor creating a medico-legal certificate and putting Gaganpreet's name in it. I asked, why are you creating a fake document. Upon enquiring, I got to know that the woman was being treated at the same hospital," Mr Singh added.

The hospital, where the government officer was taken, belongs to someone Gaganpreet knows, according to the Police sources.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including section 238A for destruction and concealment of evidence or giving false information. The case has also been registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 125B (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), and 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

Police have taken custody of both the BMW car and the motorbike.
