CPM files complaint with Election Commission against Mamata

Kolkata: The CPM on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the West Bengal Election Commission alleging that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee had violated the civic poll model code during a campaign for the upcoming civic polls.

While campaigning at Hazra on May 14 Banerjee, the Railway Minister, had claimed to have a secret report about CPM's attempt to create communal discord in connivance with the police in the metropolis, CPM state secretary Biman Bose said in his complaint to State Election Commissioner Meera Pandey.

Yesterday she had repeated the allegation at another public meeting at Rajabazar, he charged. Stating that newspapers and the electronic media had carried reports about it, Bose asked the State Election Commission to act immediately as such provocative speeches were "in gross violation of the civic poll model code and the People's Representative Act, 1951".
