Cop murder: PIL filed against Tamil Nadu ministers

Chennai: The noose is tightening around two Tamil Nadu ministers who stood watching when Sub Inspector Vetrivel bled to death after assailants hurled countrybombs at him a week ago.

They took around half an hour to send a vehicle from their convoy to rush the victim to hospital. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeks criminal action against the state Health Minister Paneerselvam, Sports Minister Mohideen Khan, police and senior bureaucrats present there for failing to act on time to save him.

"The Ministers were standing and failed to help the man bleeding. That amounts to culpable negligence and by an extension it could also mean abetment to murder," said Manikandan Vathan Chettiar, Petitioner.

The ministers are on a denial mode, the state government has not even ordered a probe.

NDTV: Public Interest Litigations have been filed in Madurai and Chennai seeking inclusion of the Ministers in the case. What do you have to say?

"The investigation is on and its in its early stages. The Investigation Officer and the Superintendent of Police will decide," said Latika Saran, DGP Tamil Nadu.

The petitioner has also raised the role played by the amateur who filmed the video that shook the country and the case will come up for hearing on Monday.
