Children abandoned at railway station in Jammu

Jammu: Three sisters aged three, two and one years were abandoned at the Jammu railway station on Saturday. So far no NGO or orphanage has come forward to adopt the babies.

Three year old Kajal, the oldest of the three sisters, is not old enough to know the names of her other two sisters. All she can tell is her mother left them at the station and went for work and didn't return. The other two babies are too young to speak. Nobody knows who brought the children here and why were they abandoned?

It was Gurdev Singh, a sweeper, who found the children at the railway platform near the computer room. He has been taking care of them ever since.

"I have been taking care of them till now, I gave them milk and water and bread. I didn't sleep the whole night and have been tending them. I had a couple of blankets, I gave them to the children," said Gurdev Singh.

The police have came into action twenty four hours later. They took the children in their custody but so far no NGO or group has come forward to adopt the babies.

"We have now kept them in our custody and are getting in touch with the NGOs, whenever some organization asks for them we will hand them over to them," said RK Bhardawaj, the station house officer.

Amidst all this the babies are unaware of the difficult situation they are in and are awaiting the return of their mother.
