Caught in a Catch-22 situation, says Moily on the black money matter

Mumbai: Under pressure from the Supreme Court on the black money trail, Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily admitted to being in a catch- 22 situation.

Moily, reacting to the apex court's strong observation on the government's unwillingness to disclose the names of Indians who had stashed away ill-gotten wealth in tax havens, said, "We are caught a in catch-22 situation. Whatever the SC decides, we will abide by it."

He further added, "There are certain treaties between countries and we are bound by the terms of those treaties and hence there cannot be disclosures...We don't want to hide...It is ultimately for the judiciary to take a decision. Since it is sub-judice, I don't want to comment much on this."
