Blistering heat continues; Hisar hottest

Chandigarh:

Intense heat continued to sweep Punjab and Haryana on Monday, with Hisar once again turning out to be the hottest place in the region at 43.7 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum at Hisar further rose by about two degrees since Sunday and made the heat unbearable, there was no let up in heat conditions at other places in the state as well.

Karnal experienced a hot day as the maximum temperature shot to 41 C, four degrees above the normal range, the Meteorological Department said in Chandigarh.

Ambala also came under the influence of heat recording a high of 39.7 C.

There was no relief from heat for the Chandigarh residents, where mercury touched 39.4 C, up four degrees.

In Punjab, Ludhiana registered a maximum of 39.5 C, up three degrees while the high at Patiala settled at 39.6 C, two above normal. The high at Amritsar was recorded at 37.2 C.

The Met has forecast rain or thundershowers at a few places in Himachal Pradesh while dust storm or thunderstorm with rain at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana is likely until Tuesday.
