Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya on sunday claimed that the voters of the state will follow the mantra of "SP saaf, BSP saaf, BJP top" (SP, BSP wiped out and BJP on top) and riding on the developmental agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the saffron party will form the government in the state in 2017.
"The voters of the state will follow the mantra of 'SP saaf, BSF saaf, BJP top' in 2017. People are fed up with the atmosphere of corruption and 'Goonda Raj' prevailing in the state. The developmental agenda of the Modi government will see the BJP form the government in Uttar Pradesh with more than 350 MLAs," he claimed.
Mr Maurya was talking to reporters before taking part in a convention of BJP's district-level officials.
"The goons of the Samajwadi Party (SP) enter girls hostels and misbehave with the inmates there but the chief minister looks the other way," he alleged.
Alleging that state minister Azam Khan had "insulted" BR Ambedkar, he said the BJP would not tolerate this. "The Dalits will give a fitting reply to the SP," he claimed.
The state BJP chief alleged that the Uttar Pradesh government was "struggling" to spend the money allotted to it by the Centre under various schemes.
"While the other states have spent all the money allotted to them, the Uttar Pradesh government has managed to spend only about 14 per cent of the funds," he claimed.
Mr Maurya alleged that while the other states had agreed to the Centre's proposal to ensure 24x7 power supply, Uttar Pradesh had stayed away and that is why the state was facing a power crisis.
He also accused the state police of working "in the garb of SP activists" and alleged "widespread corruption" among the officials posted in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Mr Maurya also took a jibe at the Congress, saying that the people of the state have "taught the party a lesson".
