Jammu: Amarnath Yatra was suspended and no pilgrim was today allowed to move from Jammu city to perform the pilgrimage following the tension in Kashmir valley.

"No yatri was allowed to move from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city towards the valley due to prevailing tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani," a senior police official told IANS in Jammu.

"The situation will be reviewed later. Till then the Amarnath Yatra shall remain suspended."

The annual Amarnath Yatra was proceeding normally so far and over 80,000 pilgrims have had 'darshan' of the 'Lingam' inside the cave shrine in Kashmir Himalayas.

Situated at 3,888 metres above the sea level, the cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon.
