If there's one thing that's evident from the India AI Impact Summit 2026, it's that artificial intelligence is no longer just a digital assistant living in our phones, it is moving into our physical world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appreciated Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who has described the ongoing AI Impact Summit here as more than a conference.

Modi pointed out that Vučić, in a newspaper article, has elaborated how the summit places India firmly at the centre of the global discourse on artificial intelligence (AI).

Artificial Intelligence (AI) presents a strategic opportunity to transform India's healthcare landscape and accelerate progress towards universal health coverage, Dr V K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, said on Tuesday.

Addressing a session during the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, Dr Paul noted that given India's scale, diversity and dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases, technology-driven, evidence-based interventions are essential to strengthen service delivery and improve health outcomes.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, apologised on Tuesday to visitors to a global artificial intelligence summit who had complained of overcrowding and other organisational problems on the first day.

"Right now we are in a conversation regarding deepfakes, regarding age-based restrictions with the various social media platforms and... what is the right way to go about this," Vaishnaw told reporters at the AI Impact Summit.

Sovereign AI models have been made available at the AI Impact Summit and the government is planning huge infrastructure to make them available widely for everyone, Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

The minister said sovereign models have withstood all parameters at par with global big AI models. "Sovereign models have been launched here. You can go and see and see how they stand on the global parameters. In the coming time, AI mission 2.0, there will be a need to prepare a large infrastructure for sovereign models. This will bring India's availability to a new level," Vaishnaw said.

The minister said investors are also bullish on India and have finalised investment of over Rs 20,000 crore, which will materialise over the next 1-2 years.

The Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) hosted a high-level leadership discussion on artificial intelligence and journalism at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Monday. The summit was organised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

India's demographic strength and technological ambition position it uniquely in the global artificial intelligence race, said Amitabh Kant, former G20 Sherpa of India, while speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

Highlighting the country's youthful energy and vibrancy, Kant said the massive interest among young Indians in AI reflects the transformative potential of the technology. "India has tremendous energy, great vibrancy, huge, huge number of young people," Kant said.

"This very powerful technology will change fundamentally the way we live and the way we will grow and evolve," he said.

He added that India must leverage AI to build a more equal society and reach its people.

Kant emphasized that talent, skill development and computing power will be central to India's AI journey. "Talent, skill, computing power are all very important," he said.

Union minister Anupriya Patel stressed on the use of artificial intelligence in the health sector, adding that it cannot take place of doctors, but reduce the burden of their routine work.

She also pushed for literacy in the health sector towards AI which can further help in achieving the goal of inclusivity and health equity.

"AI can support the doctors and reduce the burden of their routine work, but it can never take their place. What we need today is that our medical fraternity needs to be AI literate and help us achieve the goal of inclusivity and health equity," Anupriya Patel told reporters.

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will launch two key national initiatives - the Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for India (SAHI) and the Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI (BODH) - at the India AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam.

SAHI is a national guidance framework aimed at enabling the safe, ethical, evidence-based, and inclusive adoption of Artificial Intelligence across India's healthcare ecosystem. It aims to provide strategic direction for governance, data stewardship, validation, deployment, and monitoring of AI solutions, while supporting States and institutions in the responsible adoption of AI solutions aligned with public health priorities.

BODH, developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in collaboration with the National Health Authority, is a privacy-preserving benchmarking platform that enables rigorous evaluation of AI models using diverse, real-world health data without sharing underlying datasets.

As a digital public good under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, it is designed to strengthen trust, transparency, and quality assurance in the deployment of Health AI.

A quadruped machine that can navigate rubble, climb stairs, and diagnose mechanical failures without human intervention is the centre of attention at the India AI Summit.

This robot, developed for industrial "Physical AI" by Tata Consultancy Services, is designed to operate in industrial environments such as construction sites, warehouses, manufacturing plants and distribution centres.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday stressed the use of science and technology for public interest as the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi enters its second day.

"Intelligence, rationality and decision-making make science and technology useful to the masses. The India AI Impact Summit aims to see how AI can be used in public interest," he wrote in a post in Hindi.

The India AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi from Monday to Friday will be packed with activities, for which the planners have made elaborate arrangements for efficiency and maximum security.

Authorities, including the Delhi Police, are using AI-assisted systems. More than 10,000 personnel will be deployed. The entire event area has been divided into 10 zones and 22 sectors.
