New Delhi:

Amid the ongoing protests across the country over the Agnipath scheme, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the government saying that her pleas to the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh about the recruitment were unheard.

"I had written a letter to the Defense Minister on March 29, 2022, requesting him to pay attention to these demands of the youth and find a solution immediately. But, the government did not give any importance to the voice of the youth," she tweeted.

According to Priyanka Gandhi, the government needs to understand the pain of the youth who are preparing for recruitment in the Army. She urged the Central government to take immediate decisions to fill up the vacant posts in the Army. She added that there has been no recruitment in the Army for three years.

Priyanka Gandhi tweeted, "Understand the pain of rural youth preparing for army recruitment. Recruitment did not come for three years. The youth of the race got blisters on their feet, they are disappointed and desperate. The youth are waiting for the Air Force recruitment results and appointments. The government took away permanent recruitment, rank, pension, everything."

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in a letter written on March 29, had urged Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to immediately initiate recruitment to fill the vacant posts in the army and give two years relaxation in the age limit to the youth.

In the letter to the Defense Minister, she also said that due to long delays in recruitment, results and appointments, there is huge disappointment among the youth.

Priyanka added, "The examination for the recruitment of soldiers in the Air Force (January 2020) was held in November 2020 and its result also came in November 2020. Despite the completion of all the tests and the provisional selection list being out, its enrollment list was not been released yet. This list should be issued immediately."

Protests have broken out in various parts of the country against the new recruitment scheme in the Armed Forces. In some places, the protests turned violent as trains were set ablaze.
