Singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead last year
Chandigarh: Two gangsters, who were held in connection with singer Sidhu Moosewala murder case and lodged in the Goindwal Sahib Central Jail in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, were killed in a clash among inmates on Sunday, police said.
They were facing other charges as well, Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said.
One inmate was injured in the fight, he said, adding that all the three belonged to the same group.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Mansa district on May 29.
Chauhan said the deceased have been identified as Mandeep Singh alias Toofan of Batala and Manmohan Singh alias Mohna, a resident of Budhlada.
Another inmate Keshav was critically injured in the clash and rushed to a hospital here, police said.
Sources said the clash took place among the inmates over some matter and soon the situation took an ugly turn. Utensils and iron rods were used during the fight inside the high-security jail, they said.
Police said Keshav had also been arrested in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.
Mandeep Singh alias Toofan was arrested along with Manpreet Singh alias Mani Rayya last year from Amritsar district. Both of them were the main shooters of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, police said.
Initially, Toofan and Rayya were assigned the task of killing Sidhu Moosewala but they could not carry out the plan because of the presence of security cover around the singer, they said.
Manmohan Singh alias Mohna was accused of conducting the recce of Moosewala in January and February last year while Kehsav was accused of providing a vehicle and helped the shooters escape after the killing of the singer.
Meanwhile, opposition Shiromani Akali Dal said there needs to be an independent probe into the incident as there could be a "deep rooted conspiracy behind it." On the law and order situation, the party alleged that 'jungle raj' prevailed in the state.
"No one is safe in Jungle Raj of @AAPPunjab. Traders not safe at shops.Women not safe at homes. Cops not safe in police stations. Latest killing of 2 gangsters involved in #SidhuMooseWala murder in jail needs independent probe as there could be a deep rooted conspiracy behind it," SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said in a tweet.
