Several medicines, including famciclovir, ganciclovir and valganciclovir, can be used to control CMV infection. Administration of famciclovir to animals during pregnancy have not produced any adverse effect on the fetus. However the relevance of this finding to humans is not known. Hence famciclovir should be given to women during pregnancy only if benefits clearly outweigh the risks.
