Ranbir Kapoor's new tattoo reveals he's Awaara, like grandfather Raj

Ranbir Kapoor flaunts his tattoo at the launch of the trailer of his upcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Highlights

  • Ranbir Kapoor revealed a new tattoo on his wrist at the unveiling of the trailer of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, his new film with ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone, in Mumbai on March 19. Waiting cameras glimpsed on the word Awaara in the Devanagri script inscribed on Ranbir's right wrist.
  • However, the tattoo may only be a temporary inking for Bombay Talkies, a collection of short films celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, which features Ranbir Kapoor.

  • Awaara is, of course, the 1951 film starring Ranbir's grandfather Raj Kapoor who also directed and produced the film. Awaara, which means vagabond in Hindi, was the first film to feature the character that Raj Kapoor modeled on Charlie Chaplin's famous Little Tramp. Ranbir's role in last year's hit movie Barfi! referenced his grandfather's version of the 'little tramp' character.
  • Ranbir joins a handful other Bollywood stars who've also gotten themselves tattoos - Saif Ali Khan has wife Kareena's name on his arm, Akshay Kumar has his son's name, Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan have matching tattoos and, perhaps most famously, Deepika Padukone inked Ranbir's initials on the nape of her neck when they were dating.
