New Delhi: Lata Mangeshkar is celebrating her 88th birthday today and wishes have been pouring in for her from all across. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrities Rishi Kapoor, Sachin Tendulkar, Shabana Azmi and Farhan Akhtar have extended their warm wishes for her on social media. In his tweet, Rishi Kapoor thanked the legendary singer for all the great work she has given the industry over the years. "Wishing you the greatest birthday today. God Bless you and thank you for all great work you have given us!," wrote Mr Kapoor. Sachin Tendulkar posted a picture on Twitter featuring him with Lata Mangeshkar and captioned it as, "Happy birthday, @mangeshkarlata Didi. We are fortunate to be blessed by your voice in this world. Wishing you good health!"
 
 

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi also shared a picture of Lata Mangeshkar on Twitter and wrote, "Us duniya mein jeena jis mein @mangeshkarlata rehti hain - khushkimet hain hum sab. Salgirah Mubarak Lataji."

Lata Mangeshkar is one of the best known and most respected playback singers in India. She began her career in 1942 and has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. She has sung in over 36 regional Indian languages and foreign languages, primarily in Marathi and Hindi.

Lata Mangeshkar has won three National Film Awards, 12 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards and four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards.

In 1989, Lata Mangeshkar was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award by the Government of India. She is also the second vocalist, after M. S. Subbulakshmi, to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2001, India's highest civilian honour.

Lata Mangeshkar has four siblings - Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar.
