LIVE: Election Results 2021 | Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2021 results are expected to be announced today after counting of votes. Voting in all 234 Tamil Nadu constituencies took place in a single phase on April 6. Apart from Tamil Nadu, counting for the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Bengal and Puducherry will also be conducted today. These were the first state polls since the deaths of AIADMK's J Jayalalithaa and DMK's Karunanidhi - the two politicians who dominated Tamil Nadu politics for decades. Their absence left a power vacuum many raced to fill. The main contest is between the ruling AIADMK and DMK. Both the regional parties have partnered with national players. While AIADMK contested the polls in alliance with the BJP, DMK allied with its long-term partner, the Congress. Two new entrants are also trying their luck. TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK and actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam are hoping to get toeholds in the state. In 2016, J Jayalalithaa had steered AIADMK to a big win. The party had won 136 seats. DMK, under M Karunanidhi's leadership, could win only 98. Both the parties now have new leaders. While the E Palaniswami-O Panneerselvam team is looking after the affairs of AIADMK, MK Stalin is spearheading DMK. Most of the exit polls have predicted a landslide win for Mr Stalin. According to NDTV's poll of exit polls – an aggregate of exit polls, DMK and allies are forecast to win at least 160 seats, while the AIADMK and its allies are predicted to win 66 seats. TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK is likely to win 1 seat. The Tamil Nadu results can be tracked live on www.ndtv.com
