About Tumkur

One of the 28 constituencies in the Karnataka State, the Tumkur Lok Sabha constituency voted in the second phase of 2019 general election on April 18. Karnataka will vote in two phases. The Tumkur constituency consists of Chikkanayakanahalli, Tiptur, Turuvekere, Tumkur City, Tumkur Rural, Koratagere, Gubbi and Madhugiri assembly seats, among which Koratagere seat is reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category. Among the total 15,94,703 voters in this constituency 26,098 are in the age group of 18-19 years. A total of 119 third gender electorates have been registered to vote in the constituency.

The Janata Dal (Secular) or JD(S) has fielded former Indian Prime Minister and former Chief Minister of Karnataka Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda (H.D. Deve Gowda). HD Deve Gowda is the sitting MP from Hassan constituency from where his grandson Prajwal Revanna is contesting this time.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had won the Tumkur seat for four terms, has re-nominated GS Basavaraj. BJP had lost the Tumkur seat by a margin of 74,041 votes.

15 candidates are contesting for the Tumkur Lok Sabha seat. 9 of the contenders are independent candidates.
