About Raichur

In the 2014 general elections BV Naik of the Congress won the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency with a slim margin of 1,499 votes. Mr Naik received 4,43,659 votes while his nearest opponent, Arakera Shivanagouda Naik of the BJP, was polled 4,42,160 votes.

In the 2009 general elections, Pakkirappa S of the BJP won the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency by defeating Raja Venkatappa Naik of the Congress.

In the general elections of 1980 and 1984, BV Desai from Congress had won the seat. In 1989, R Ambanna Naik Dore was elected on a Congress ticket.

A Venkatesh Naik from Congress won the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency in 1991, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

In the general elections of 1996, Raja Rangappa Naik from Janata Dal won the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency.

For the general elections of 2019, Congress has fielded BV Naik while Raja Amareshwara Naik is his main opponent from BJP.

There are eight assembly constituencies in the Raichur Lok Sabha constituency. These include Shorapur (ST), Shahapur, Yadgir, Raichur Rural (ST), Raichur, Manvi (ST), Devadurga (ST) and Lingsugur (SC).

Raichur, a reserved (ST) constituency, went to polls on April 23 and recorded 57.85 per cent voting.
