About Kolar

With a total of 16,12,227 eligible voters, Karnataka's Kolar constituency went to polls on April 18 in the second phase of the 2019 general election. The "golden land" of India, Kolar, is among the 14 constituencies in the state to have voted on April 18. Voting in Karnataka took place in two phases. The Kolar constituency consists of Sidlaghatta, Chintamani, Srinivasapur, Mulbagal, Kolar Gold Field, Bangarapet, Kolar and Malur assembly segments. The Mulbagal, Kolar Gold Field, Bangarapet assembly seats are reserved for candidates belonging to scheduled caste category.

Polling will continue throughout the country till May 19 and the 2019 Lok Sabha election result will be declared on May 23.

The Kolar constituency has been a Congress bastion, and has been represented by KH Muniyappa in the Lok Sabha since 1989.

Law graduate, Dr. KH Muniyappa holds a doctorate degree awarded by Gulbarga University.

In 2014 he defeated Janata Dal (Secular) candidate Kolar Kesava by a margin of 47,850 votes.

A total of 14 candidates are contesting for the Kolar seat. BJP has fielded S. Muniswamy to take on Congress in this year's general election.

Among regional parties are Ambedkar Samaj Party, Republic Sena, Uttam Prajaakeeya Party, Republic Party of India (A) and Pyramid Party of India.
