About Hassan

The Hassan Lok Sabha constituency along with 13 other constituencies in Karnataka went to polls on April 18, the second phase of the general election 2019. The Hassan parliamentary constituency consists of Kadur, Shravanabelagola, Arsikere, Belur, Hassan, Holenarasipur, Arakalgud and Sakaleshapur among which the Sakaleshapur seat is reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled caste category.

A total of 16,29,587 voters cast their vote in the second phase election in Hassan constituency.

The Lok Sabha election will be held in seven phases between April 11 and May 19 and the result will be declared on May 23.

In the past, Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) have won the Hassan constituency for nine and five times respectively.

The 11th Prime Minister of the country, HD Deve Gowda has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Hassan seat in 1991, 1998 and again for three consecutive terms from 2004-2014.

In the 2014 general election, HD Gowda's Janata Dal party received 44.75 per cent of the total votes in the constituency. He defeated his nearest rival Congress leader A Manju.

This time ruling party, Janata Dal (Secular) is fielding 28 year old engineering graduate, Prajwal Revanna. He is the grandson of HD Deve Gowda.

This time, A. Manju is contesting for the Hassan seat with a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. In the last election, BJP got 1,65,688 votes, which was 14.54% of the total votes exercised in this constituency.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is also contesting the election from Hassan seat and has nominated KH Vinodraj as its candidate. 2 contestants have filed their nomination as independent candidate.
