Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency went to polls in the second phase of the 2019 general election. This constituency consists of Gauribidanur, Bagepalli, Chikkballapur, Yelahanka, Hosakote, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur and Nelamangala assembly segments. The Devanahalli and Nelamangala seats are reserved for candidates belonging to the scheduled caste category.

Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency has been a stronghold of the Congress party. The current member of parliament - M Veerappa Moily - is in his second term in the constituency. In 2009 he succeeded fellow party leader RL Jalappa, who was a four-time MP from the Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency. RL Jalappa had represented the constituency in 1996 in the Lok Sabha as a Janata Dal candidate and later joined the Congress party.

In the Chikballapur constituency key contestants are the same as they were in 2014 election.

Congress is fielding the M.Veerappa Moily this time as well, and he is among 15 contenders for the Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency. In 2014 Congress had won the seat by a margin of 9,520 votes.

BN Bache Gowda who was the face of the BJP in the Chikballapur Lok Sabha constituency last time is contesting this time.

CPI (M) got 2.06% of votes in 2014 election. S. Varalakshmi is contesting for the Chikballapur seat with CPI (M) ticket.

The seven-phase Lok Sabha polls will continue till May 19 and the poll results will be announced on May 23.
