In the 2014 general election, R Dhruvanarayana of the Congress was elected from Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 1,41,182 votes. The Congress candidate polled 5,67,782 while the runner-up, AR Krishna Murthy of the Bharatiya Janata Party or BJP bagged 4,26,600 votes.

From Chamarajanagar, a seat that is reserved for scheduled caste candidates, BJP candidate V Srinivas Prasad, five-time MP and former union minister, is making a comeback in electoral politics after a self-declared retirement. He will take on sitting Congress member of parliament R Dhruvnarayana, seeking a third term.

V Srinivas Prasad had represented the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha seat five times. Mr Dhruvnarayana had also won the general elections in 2009.

Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency consists of Hanur, Kollegal, Chamarajanagar, Gundlupet, T.Narasipura, Nanjangud, Heggadadevankote and Varuna Assembly segments from Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
