In the 2014 general elections, Bhagwanth Khuba of the BJP won the Bidar Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 92,222 votes. Mr Khuba had received 4,59,290 votes while his closest opponent N. Dharam Singh of the Congress got 3,67,068 votes.

In the 2009 general elections, N. Dharam Singh, a former chief minister of Karnataka, had won the seat defeating Gurupadappa Nagmarpalli from BJP.

BJP has won six out of seven Lok Sabha elections held in Bidar since 1991. BJP's late veteran leader Ramchandra Veerappa had won the seat 5 times in 1991, 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

In the 2019 general elections, Bhagwanth Khuba of the BJP is seeking re-election from the constituency, while Congress has fielded Eshwar B Khandre, its state working president.

Bidar Lok Sabha Constituency has eight legislative assembly segments under it. These include Chincholi, Alanda, Basavakalyan, Homnabad, Bidar South, Bidar, Bhalki and Aurad.
