Live : Tezpur Assembly Election 2021

The Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency is under the Sonitpur district. The constituency has 9 segments-Dhekiajuli, Barchalla, Tezpur, Rangapara, Sootea, Biswanath, Behali, Gohpur and Bihpuria. More than 75 lakh electorates from the Tezpur constituency will exercise their franchise on April 11, in the first phase of general election. Assam will vote in three phases in the 17th Lok Sabha election.

The first phase voting will be held at 9,574 polling stations.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ram Prasad Sarmah was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from the Tezpur seat. Mr Sarmah had won the election by a margin of 86 thousand votes defeating his nearest rival Bhupen Kumar Borah of Congress party.

More than 16 thousand votes were registered under NOTA from this constituency in the last election.

Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) had lost the seat in the last election with little more than 40 thousand votes.

This time, BJP is fielding Pallab Lochan Das for Tezpur seat. Nationalist Congress Party candidate Mahendra Bhuyan will contest for the Tezpur seat.

MGVK Bhanu, a 1985 batch retired IAS officer, is among the key candidates contesting from this constituency. Mr Bhanu will contest with a Congress ticket. He is known to be a close aide of former Assam Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Tarun Gogoi.

Among the 7 contenders are two independent candidates.

Mahendra Orang representing the Voters Party International and Ram Bahadur Sunar from the National People's Party will also contest for the Tezpur seat.
