About Mangaldoi

In general elections 2014, Ramen Deka of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected from the Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency with a margin of 22,884. Mr Deka was polled 4,86,357 votes while runner-up Kirip Chaliha secured 4,63,473 votes.

BJP had won this constituency three times in a row from 2004 to 2014. Narayan Chandra Borkataky represented the constituency in 2004 while Mr Deka was elected in the last two general elections. Before this, candidates from Praja Socialist Party, Asom Gana Parishad, BLD, and Indian National Congress (Congress or INC) had represented this constituency in several general elections held from 1960s.

In Mangoldoi, which has Muslim population of over 5 lakh, Dilip Saikia of BJP is facing Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita of Congress and Sudhendu Mohan Talukdar of All India Trinamool Congress. UPPL (United People's Party Liberal) candidate Prodeep Kumar Daimary is also in the fray.

There are 11 contestants in the fray for Mangaldoi in general elections 2019.

Mangaldoi recorded 83.60 per cent voting when it went to the polling booths on April 18.
