In the 2014 general election, Naba Kumar Sarania (Hira), an independent candidate, was elected from Kokrajhar seat in Assam. He received 6,34,428 votes. His closest opponent was Urkhao Gwra Brahma, another independent candidate, who received 2,78,649 votes.

In the 2009 general election, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary from BOPF was elected from Kokrajhar with 4,95,211 votes. His closest opponent was Urkhao Gwra Brahma, an independent candidate, who received 3,04,889 votes. 

The Kokrajhar seat has mostly been won by a candidate with no affiliation to any political party. Since 1971, most of the candidates who have registered victory from Kokrajhar have been independent candidates.

In the 1971 Lok Sabha election, Dharanidhar Basumatary from Congress was elected from Kokrajhar. In 1977, Charan Narzary, independent candidate, was elected. 

In the 1985 election, Samar Brahma Choudhury from PTC party was elected. In 1991 election, Satyendra Nath Brohmo Choudhury, an independent candidate, was elected from Kokrajhar. 

In the 1996 election, Louis Islary, independent candidate, won from the Kokrajhar seat. In 1998, 1999 and 2004, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary, another independent candidate, was elected. 

For the 2019 general election, Pramila Rani Brahma has been fielded by Bodoland Peoples Front, Biraj Deka has been fielded by CPI (M), Sabda Ram Rabha has been fielded by Congress. In 2019, there are three independent candidates in the fray from Kokrajhar - Naba Kumar Sarania, Prasanjit Kumar Das, and Ranjoy Kr. Brahma. 

There are 10 assembly segments under the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency. These include Gossaigaon, Kokrajhar East, Kokrajhar West, Sidli, Bijni, Sorbhog, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Barama, and Chapaguri.
