About Autonomous District

Biren Singh Engti of Indian National Congress (INC or Congress) was elected from the Autonomous District Lok Sabha constituency in 2014 with a margin of 24,095 votes. Biren was polled 2,13,152 votes while the runner-up, Joy Ram Engleng of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured 1,89,057 votes.

Jayanta Rongpi had represented this constituency four times in which three times as an Autonomous State Demand Committee party nominee and once as Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation party nominee.

Although five candidates are in the fray in Autonomous District constituency, the main poll battle is between Congress veteran and seven-time Lok Sabha MP Biren Sing Engti and the BJP's Horen Sing Bey.

Bey is banking on the anti-incumbency factor against Engti, who will be seeking re-election for the eighth consecutive time from the constituency.
