Based on the challenges received against the provisional answer key, the NTA will publish the final answer key for final evaluation and marks calculation.

According to the official document, the committee recommended that, in the interest of holding a fair and error-free examination, these three papers should be re-conducted.

As per the committee's report, “the three papers had many factual, typographical, translation errors including misspelt names of prominent scholars, garbled book titles, errors in the stem wording of questions, grammatical errors, gender and number agreement errors, punctuation mistakes, and non-standard coined terms for established concepts, as well as repetition of a significant number of questions previously administered.”

According to official guidelines, if a challenge is accepted by the subject experts, the resulting correction will be applied uniformly to all candidates of that subject. The answer key finalised after considering all challenges will be treated as final, the NTA noted. Applicants must keep in mind that the UGC NET June 2026 result will be based on the final answer key published after review. 

The UGC NET 2026 exams were conducted for a total of 87 subjects. As per official information, the provisional answer key PDFs and challenge link has been issued for 84 subjects as of now. For the three remaining subjects - English, Commerce, and Sociology - the NTA has announced a re-exam on September 9 and 10.  

Candidates must note that the record of the UGC NET June 2026 will be preserved for 90 days from the date of declaration of the result, the testing agency stated.

As per official notification, the NTA will provide an additional facility through the DigiLocker platform to enable candidates to download examination-related documents such as the NTA scorecard and other relevant records. 

The NTA follows the given steps for the preparation of the UGC NET result:

• The number of candidates to be qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor will be equal to 6% of the candidates who appeared in NET (in both papers) based on their master’s degree or equivalent examination.
• The total slots will be allocated to different categories as per the reservation policy of the Government of India.
• In order to be considered, candidates must have appeared in both papers and secured at least 40% aggregate marks in both papers taken together for the Unreserved and EWS category, and 35% for candidates belonging to SC, ST, and OBC(NCL), and PWD categories.

The certificates for the UGC NET June 2026 will be made available on the NTА website after the declaration of the result. The certificate will be issued for the following qualifications:

1. Award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor
2. Аppointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD
3. Admission to PhD only

The UGC NET 2026 certificate will determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD in Indian universities and colleges.

Based on the official marking scheme, each question carries two marks. There is no negative marking for incorrect responses. Candidates must also note that no marks will be given for unanswered or unattempted questions.

The UGC NET exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency twice a year (June and December sessions). Once the exam is conducted, the UGC NET provisional answer key is released, followed by the final answer key and the UGC NET result.

The UGC NET 2026 exam will determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), appointment as Assistant Professor, and admission to PhD.

In order to be considered, a candidate must have appeared in both papers and secured at least 40% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for General (Unreserved) and General-EWS category; and at least 35% aggregate marks in both the papers taken together for all candidates belonging to the reserved categories.

The number of candidates to be qualified for Assistant Professor eligibility will be equal to 6% of the candidates who appeared in the NET examination (in both the papers) on the basis of their Master’s degree or equivalent examination, the official document stated.

Awarding Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) depends on the aggregate performance of the candidate in Part 1 and Part 2 of the UGC NET, the testing agency stated. Candidates qualifying under the ‘appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD’ category will be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to PhD but not for the award of JRF.

The NTA has clearly mentioned in the UGC NET 2026 notification that no re-evaluation or re-checking of the result will be done, and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained by the exam conducting body.

According to the official announcement, the NTA had received several complaints on multiple errors in the three papers. Accordingly, the testing agency formed a committee to enquire into and look into these errors.

Earlier, the NTA had stated that the UGC NET 2026 results for 84 papers will be declared as per schedule Allocation of JRF seats and issuance of e-certificates for these 84 subjects will not be delayed due to re-conduct of the examination for the three papers, the NTA asserted.

The English, Commerce, and Sociology exams will be re-conducted on the following dates: 

• English: September 9, 2026 (Shift 1) 9 am to 12 pm
• Commerce: September 9, 2026 (Shift 2)  3 pm to 6 pm
• Sociology: September 10 2026 (Shift 1)  9 am to 12 pm

The UGC NET June 2026 applicants were given a chance to challenge the provisional answer key in case of discrepancies found, along with valid justification and proof. Candidates were required to pay an amount of Rs 200 per answer key challenged, as a non-refundable processing fee. The UGC NET objection window was open from August 16 to 18, 2026, for 84 papers.

The NTA conducted the UGC NET examinations on June 22, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, and a retest on July 5, 2026. 

The UGC NET 2026 exams were conducted for a total of 87 subjects. As per official information, the provisional answer key PDFs and challenge link was issued for 84 subjects on August 16.

In a public announcement on Wednesday, the testing agency stated that the UGC NET 2026 final answer key PDFs will be published this week for 84 subjects.
