  • The Gujarat State Board partnered with Amazon to sell textbooks online for students and parents
  • Textbooks will be available on Amazon at printed prices with no extra delivery charges
  • The initiative targets students in private and self-financed schools needing additional books

The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks has partnered with Amazon to make school textbooks easier for students and parents to buy online. The Board signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon in Gandhinagar in the presence of Gujarat Education Minister Dr Pradyuman Vaja, reported PTI. Under the partnership, students and parents will be able to order textbooks online through Amazon and get them delivered to their homes.

Textbooks to be delivered without extra charges

Textbooks published by the Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks for different classes and mediums will be available on Amazon.

Students and parents will not have to pay any delivery charges. The books will be delivered at the printed price.

The initiative is mainly aimed at students studying in private and self-financed schools. Those who need additional textbooks will be able to order them online instead of visiting bookstores or distributors.

Around 1.5 crore textbooks supplied every year

The Gujarat State Board of School Textbooks currently provides around 1.5 crore textbooks every year to students in self-financed schools. At present, the books are supplied to booksellers through authorised distributors across the state.

The new partnership is expected to make the process more convenient, particularly at the beginning of the academic session when students and parents often face long queues and crowds at bookstores, reported PTI.

Amazon to use its delivery network

According to the Board, Amazon's delivery network will help ensure that textbooks reach students on time.

Amazon India Category Leader for Books Rashi Bahadur said access to quality educational content should not become a barrier for students. She said the company was pleased to partner with Gujarat to make educational material more accessible and affordable.

The Gujarat government said the initiative is part of its efforts to improve access to education and make the process more convenient for students and parents.
