Ex-Agniveers Get 100% Tuition Fee Waiver: Devi Ahilya University in Indore has announced a 100 per cent tuition fee waiver for former Agniveers, supporting them in pursuing higher education and improving their job prospects. Speaking to news agency PTI, Dr Rakesh Singhai said there would be no limit on the number of former Agniveers who can avail themselves of the benefit, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.
Candidates must have completed the mandatory four-year service period under the Agnipath scheme to qualify for the tuition fee waiver. Agniveers who were dismissed from service or faced disciplinary action during their tenure will not be eligible for the benefit.
The vice-chancellor also said the university may consider reserving seats for former Agniveers during admissions and introducing specialised courses for them in the future.
The university already provides a 50 per cent tuition fee concession to children of serving personnel from the three wings of the Armed Forces. Children of martyred and retired personnel are eligible for a 100 per cent tuition fee concession.
What Benefits Do Former Agniveers Get?
The Central government, several state governments, and private institutions offer various benefits and concessions to Agniveers who complete four years of service under the Agnipath scheme.
After completing four years of service, Agniveers receive a one-time Seva Nidhi package of around Rs 11.71 lakh, which is exempt from income tax. They also receive a skill certificate and can access loans from banks on a priority basis to start their own businesses.
