The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on December 9, 2025, issued important guidance regarding significant changes introduced in the Class 10 Science and Social Science question paper format for students appearing in the 2026 board examinations.

This year, the Class 10 Science and Social Science question papers have been divided into different sections with a view to improving the quality of evaluation.

Science:

The question paper has been divided into three sections - Section A, Section B and Section C. Section A is Biology, Section B is Chemistry, and Section C is Physics.

Social Science:

Similarly, the Social Science question paper has been divided into four sections - Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.

Section A is History, Section B is Geography, Section C is Political Science, and Section D is Economics.

To understand the exam pattern and familiarise themselves with the paper format, students can check the sample question papers of both Science and Social Science on the CBSE Academic website.

Important instructions for students appearing in the Class 10 board examinations:

  • Students must divide the answer book into three sections in Science and four sections in Social Science while writing their answers.
  • Answers must be written only within the space identified for the concerned section.
  • Answers of one section should not be written or mixed with another section.
  • If answers are mixed, they will not be evaluated and no marks will be awarded.
  • Such mistakes will not be accepted or addressed during the verification or revaluation process after the declaration of results.

CBSE has directed all schools to ensure that students practise this format in advance so that they do not make mistakes during the board examinations.
